Company History

1992
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH was founded by Maria Theresia von Seidlein and Georg von Langsdorff in Munich as a 50/50 partnership.

1993
S&L Medienproduktion began making weekly Making-ofs for SAT1 and VOX TV stations. The 30-minute productions are broadcast in accordance to the film release dates.
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH produces also a considerable number of film contributions on behalf of private TV stations.

1994
Our first AVID Off-line Editing System investment. The coverage of the Film festivals in Cannes, Deauville and Venice produced by S&L Medienproduktion are broadcast by various German speaking TV stations (Premiere, SAT1, Pro7 und Star T and others).

1995
S&L acquires the second AVID Online Editing System with broadcast quality picture. A new focus is on the production of EPKs (Electronic Press Kits) and TV advertising spots for cinema films.

1996
Founding of Movie Data GmbH & CO KG, an online cinema information service offering for the first time online cinema ticket purchasing in Germany.

1997
Relocation to new and larger premises.

1998
Installation of a duplicator production system that allows the complete production of EPKs along with Beta SP mass quantity production.

1999
MovieData GmbH&Co.KG was sold to a Venture Capital Partner. The executive directors von Seidlein and von Langsdorff remain minority holders of the MovieData GmbH & Co KG.

2000
Founding of S&L Medianetworx GmbH, a press and promotion agency for the film industry.
Its distinctive feature: a B-to-B platform for the film industry. The press release server delivers information, photos, audio and video material that is nonstop available to German language press.

2001
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH takes over 17% shares of AD&D Interactive Network AG. For the first time, S&L Medienproduktion is in charge of marketing and promotional and public relation services for the national entertainment events “Super Cinema Festival Tuesday” and “Cinema Festival 2001”. The contractor is ZKM GmbH, a joint venture of the Cinema operator and film distribution organization.

2002
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH and S&L MediaNetworX GmbH move to new premises that also house our archive of 15000 videos. S&L includes Web design in the company’s services and separates from the AD&D AG as shareholder.

2003
Our new department S&L Research starts MoviePanel, an online marketing research forum for the film and entertainment industry.

2004
Brigitte Eckmann and her team join S&L Medienproduktion, bringing with her a very high profile and experience of event management, promotional campaigns and cross promotion.

2005
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH founds S&L Live GmbH, a new business line for sales of promotional products und advertising sales systems.

2006
We expand our research activities by offering test screenings including subsequent empirical evaluation.
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH takes over the Web design department of Contnet AG and integrates it together with its own Web design activities into the newly founded company WestWing Online GmbH.

2007
S&L Medianetworx GmbH starts to provide UPI Germany with a wide range of services for local and regional cinema marketing. It supports cinema operators concerning local acivities and events and smoothes the cooperation between cinemas and local media in order to bring about optimal results concerning regional film exploitation.
Production of Internet films (IP TV) to film related themes for online portals.

2008
After 16 years Maria-Theresa von Seidlein has resigned from the board of directors in order to concentrate on running her family company. On January 1st, 2009 Torsten Weihrich was appointed as the new director of S&L Media Group. One of the tasks he has set himself is to strengthen the business in the areas of IT, TV technology and TV production.

2009
S&L Medienproduktion GmbH takes over Germany’s second largest cinema magazine “Kino&Co”, which is exclusively available for free each month in about 700 movie theaters nationwide. The management is run by the newly founded company Kino&Co Media GmbH.

2010
As of 1 July 2010 Maria-Theresia von Seidlein has assumed 100% ownership of the parent company of S&L Mediengruppe. Press release (pdf)

Cooperation with Markus Ostertag IT Solutions GmbH. Collaboration on the movie website www.moviemaze.de

Founding of Cineweb GmbH together with Krankikom GmbH, Duisburg. Cineweb offers websites for cinemas with an automatic CMS-generated cinema program as well as a trailer show, pages with movie details and additional video content such as making-ofs etc. By the end of 2012 it is anticipated that 100 cinemas - including Cinedom in Cologne - will be presenting their programs via Cineweb.

Founding of Guggr Media GmbH, a marketing network for film and entertainment websites that according to AGOF (Working Group for Online Media Research) now has a total coverage of 4 million in addition to 1.5 million via Cinefacts.de.

2011
Conversion of the corporate group into a holding company structure trading under the name of S&L Medien Gruppe GmbH.
Takeover of Cinefacts GmbH www.cinefacts.de and its integration into S&L Medien Gruppe GmbH.
