S&L stands up for women’s rights with SUFFRAGETTE
On behalf of Concorde Filmverleih, S&L Medianetworx has taken up the online PR and social media campaigns for SUFFRAGETTE.
On 8 October 2015, this captivating drama about the history-making origins of the women’s movement in the United Kingdom at the beginning of the 20th century will be brought to German cinemas nationwide by CONCORDE FILMVERLEIH. Ben Whishaw and Brendon Gleeson star in the leading male roles alongside an exceptional cast of female actors.
In the United Kingdom in 1903, Emmeline Pankhurst (Meryl Streep) founded the ‘Women’s Social and Political Union’: a civic women’s movement that became famous in the following years not only through passive resistance but also through public protests and even hunger strikes. As well as fighting for the right to vote, they also strove for universal women’s equality and for rights that are self-evident today – such as being allowed to smoke in public. At times the so-called ‘suffragettes’ were forced underground in a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with a state that became ever more brutal in its suppression of their movement. For the most part they were working women who had realized that peaceful protests were not bringing them success. Through their radicalization they risked losing everything: their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. Maud (Carey Mulligan) was one of these brave women. As gripping as a thriller, SUFFRAGETTE tells the exciting and inspiring story of their heartrending fight for dignity and self-determination.
